Turkey announced the opening of a natural gas pipeline from Azerbaijan to Syria to help the country generate electricity.
A ceremony was held in southeast Turkey to inaugurate the project, which included energy ministers from Syria, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The pipeline has now reached the Yavuzlu metering station in Kilis Province, right on the Turkey-Syria border.
It has a capacity to deliver up to 6 million cubic metres of natural gas a day.
The export is based on a deal Turkey reached with Azerbaijan, and Qatar is contributing to the project's financing.
Once a strong backer of rebel forces seeking to overthrow former President Bashar al-Assad, Turkey is now firmly supporting Syria's new government, helping to stabilise and rebuild the country.
