The Kai Tak Sports Park, which can house up to 50,000 spectators, has played host to a slew of large-scale concerts and sports events in recent months.

With that, the MTR Corporation is leveraging AI-powered tech combined with big data to forecast and manage foot traffic.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the MTR developed a passenger flow prediction model.

It analyses data from public transport and MTR passenger patterns to simulate crowd scenarios and determine necessary train frequency adjustments.

Said to boast nearly 90 percent accuracy, the rail giant says the model's predictions aligned with the actual crowd behaviours during the recent Coldplay concert.

The smart crowd diversion system, with CCTV footage and real-time AI analysis which monitors passenger density at key areas including exits and platforms, has been used at more than 20 major events at Kai Tak.
