With at least 6,000 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever in Guangdong, many cities in the province have stepped up prevention and control work against the mosquito-borne disease.
Guangdong's efforts to fight chikungunya fever include deploying drones to spray anti-mosquito chemicals over shrubs and grassy areas.
Authorities are also urging residents to take personal protective measures, including lighting mosquito coils, installing mosquito nets and applying repellents when heading out.
In Chancheng District of Foshan City, residents who install anti-mosquito window screens in their homes between now and August 5th can receive a 300-yuan subsidy.
Vice Premier Liu Guozhong visited local hospitals and neighbourhoods that had been affected by the outbreak.
Liu says it is important to strictly implement the health and quarantine measures at ports, strengthen inter-departmental coordination and prevent further transmission, while combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine in patient treatment and management.
