The suspect in connection with the robbery case involving a Chinese tourist in Osaka has been arrested.
The Chinese Embassy in Japan issued a statement saying that a Chinese tourist was attacked on the street in Osaka's Nishinari Ward on Wednesday night. The victim was strangled and injured during the robbery.
The Chinese side noted that recent attacks targeting Chinese nationals have become increasingly frequent. It has lodged a formal protest with Japan's Minstry of Foreign Affairs, demanding that Japan take concrete steps to ensure the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens there.
According to Japanese media, a 32-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old Chinese student in Osaka and stealing the victim's phone and wallet.
The student sustained an injury to the right elbow.
