Vice Premier Liu Guozhong in Foshan to oversee chikungunya fever measures

With at least 6,000 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever in Guangdong Province, Vice Premier Liu Guozhong visited Shunde District of Foshan City, one of the hardest-hit areas, to inspect the epidemic prevention and control work.
After visiting local hospitals and neighbourhoods, Liu presided over a meeting to instruct prevention and control efforts.
Stressing that the area is now at a critical juncture, he said it is necessary to increase strengthen the professional training of the sanitizing team to effectively control the mosquito-borne disease.
Liu added that it is pivotal to strictly implement the health and quarantine measures at ports, strengthen departmental coordination and effectively prevent further transmission, while combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine in patient treatment and management.
