Beijing has been lashed by heavy downpours since last weekend.
While the rainstorm warning was cancelled in the afternoon, at least 30 people died during the rainstorm in flood-ravaged Miyun and Yanqing districts.
The heaviest casualties were reported in Miyun District of Beijing. The rainfall topped 543 millimetres in the district, forcing Miyun Reservoir to release water downstream.
The water level continued to surge and the current -- dangerously rapid.
In Taishitun Town, one of Beijing's hardest-hit areas, as floodwaters have begun to recede, residents began their clean-up efforts.
A sight of devastation. Vehicles being swept away by torrents of water now piled up like toy blocks.
Some cars, even flipped over. The neighbourhoods, caked in mud. A Beijing citizen said the deluge came all of a sudden.
The inundation occurred at Taishitun Town on Monday. One nursing home for the elderly were besieged by floodwaters. More than 40 elderly residents and workers were trapped for nearly six hours before being extricated by rescuers with inflatable boats.
The flood-inflicted wreckage too around this sports field with a goal frame and fences toppled or bent.
As the weather cleared, some residents ventured out to help remove debris and unclog drains.
This citizen said even the protective walls near the dam were washed away. The rainstorm had struck Beijing since last week.
More than 80,000 people, mainly from Miyun, Huairou and Fangshan districts, have to be evacuated.
President Xi Jinping had earlier instructed authorities to do their best to protect people's lives and properties.
Because of the extreme weather, all scenic sites in the capital were temporarily closed.
