Two prominent Israeli rights groups said on Monday that their country is committing genocide in Gaza.

It's the first time that Israeli human rights groups have made such accusations in nearly 22 months of war.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said he disagreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said starvation does not exist in Gaza.

In reports published on Monday, Israeli-based B'Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights - Israel say Israel has targeted civilians in Gaza, caused mass displacement and "deliberate starvation."

The claims add to an explosive debate over whether Israel's military offensive in Gaza in response to Hamas' deadly 2023 attack amounts to genocide.

In Israel, founded in the wake of the Holocaust, even the government's strongest critics have refrained from making such accusations.

Daphna Shocha from Physicians for Human Rights says "(The reports by) Physicians for Human Rights and B'Tselem, both of which have been active in Israel for decades, are based on thorough and in-depth research, and have reached a single conclusion; Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. This crime must stop immediately."

Yuli Novak from B'Tselem says "For the past 22 months we have witnessed unprecedented levels of civilian killings, of deliberate starvation, forced mass displacement, and the total destruction of most infrastructure necessary for human and social existence. The people of Gaza have been displaced, bombed, and starved, left completely stripped of their humanity and rights."

Trump, meanwhile, was with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer when he was asked if he agreed with Netanyahu's assessment that there's no starvation in Gaza.

The U.S. President says "I don't know, I mean, based on television, I would say not particularly because those children look very hungry, but we're giving a lot of money and a lot of food. And other nations are now stepping up. I know that this nation (Britain) is right."

And the British Prime Minister says "It's a humanitarian crisis, right? It's an absolute catastrophe. You know, nobody wants to see that. And I think people in Britain are revolted at seeing what they're seeing on their screens. So we've got to get to that ceasefire."

Meanwhile, Israeli strikes killed at least 36 Palestinians in multiple locations across Gaza on Monday.

A strike hit a two-story house in Khan Younis, killing at least 11 people, more than half of them women and children.
