The Legislative Council's Bills Committee has completed the clause-by-clause examination of the Registration of Same-sex Partnerships Bill.

Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang said he looks forward to the lawmaking body starting the second reading of the bill as soon as possible.

This as the government earlier suggested legislation for setting up a same-sex partnership registration system that would grant qualified LGBT individuals rights to advance decisions on their partner's life-sustaining treatments and after-death arrangements.

But some lawmakers raised concerns about the measure being too lax as it permits registration by individuals who acquired their "same-sex marriage" certificates remotely.

A number of legislators questioned whether the process will make registrations for same-sex couples even easier than their heterosexual counterparts.
