Four more taxi fleets officially commenced services today after being issued five-year licences.
One of the fleets has hired a social worker to provide mediation service in the event of a dispute between cabbies and passengers.
Members of the public may have already noticed vehicles of taxi fleets running on the street recently, with some operating on a trial basis.
Today, four more taxi fleets officially commenced services, including Big Boss, Amigo, Big Bee and Joie.
Together with SynCab that received its licence earlier this month, they provide premium taxi services in the city.
Each taxi fleet has its own theme colour.
For example, Big Bee fleet taxis are in yellow and red and support up to 12 electronic payment methods.
Passengers can make bookings via phone calls or the fleet's mobile app.
They can also directly hail a cab on the street.
At least four surveillance cameras are installed in a Bigbee taxi. Footage is fed in real-time to the company's monitoring system, but the footage will only be seen by others if there is a dispute or incident.
The fares will be determined using a taximeter, however, passengers can get an estimate on the company's hailing platform.
BigBee CEO Wong Tai-hoi assured the public that their fares will not be hugely different from the ones charged by regular taxis.
He added a registered social worker will on standby to provide mediation service in case there is a dispute between the driver and the passengers.
Meanwhile, the Transport Department has set up some 80 designated fleet taxi stopping places at 13 locations, such as the airport, boundary control points and Hong Kong Disneyland.
Signage and online hailing QR codes have also been put up for the public and travellers to make their bookings.
