Foshan city in Guangdong Province has recorded over 2,600 cases of Chikungunya, an infection caused by a mosquito-borne virus. Most people suffer mild symptoms.

Foshan currently has 53 hospitals containing 3,600 mosquito-proof isolation beds, to treat Chikungunya patients.

This hospital admitted more than 400 patients. One patient said they had suffered joint pain after getting a fever -- the two typical symptoms of the infection.

Authorities discovered the first imported Chikungunya case on July 8th. The infectious disease is spread to humans through infected mosquitoes' bites and has been identified in more than 110 countries.
