In South Korea, five days of torrential rain has left 17 people dead and 11 others missing.

One person was killed Sunday after a house collapsed during heavy rain, and another person was found dead after being swept away by a swollen stream in Gapyeong, a town northeast of Seoul.

Officials say the country's southern regions have received up to about 600 to 800 millimetres of rain since Wednesday.

Most of the dead and missing were in the town of Sancheong. More than 3,800 people remain evacuated from their homes.

The rain stopped in most of the country on Sunday and heavy rain alerts have now been lifted.
