Tropical Storm Wipha is continuing on its course towards the coast of Guangdong.
The storm is expected to keep intensifying, bringing strong winds and torrential rain, and typhoon signal number 8 will be issued shortly after midnight.
It was the calm before the storm.
Hong Kong woke up to another scorching day.
But as tropical storm Wipha edges closer, the Observatory had warned that seas will be high with swells, and flooding may occur in low-lying coastal areas Sunday morning.
Heng Fa Chuen has been one of the worst flooding areas during typhoons over the years.
Gearing up for the storm, the residential estate has taken precautionary measures with taped glass panels and windows.
Sandbags were on standby to protect the underground carpark from floodwaters.
While the weather looks fine near midday in Heng Fa Chuen, with the Observatory indicating that the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 will be issued in the afternoon, residents have already installed flood barriers like these to prepare for the possible flooding and heavy rain.
Some residents are going out before the typhoon intensifies.
Rachel says, " I feel like it is gonna be strong because a few days before it was so hot. I was sweating every single day. I am just moving the stuff in my home so it is not in the balcony or facing the rain and stuff."
Samuel says, " we are going to Causeway Bay to eat lunch. (Reporter: What to do after lunch?) I will go to a class which is inside the mall. (Reporter: Are you afraid of the typhoon that is coming soon in the afternoon?) A little. (Reporter: How?) I am scared that the windows will fly away We taped the windows."
Maggie says, " I feel better recently because the community has many facilities prepared for the flooding so will be better from the past."
Kayyan says, " I have trainings on Sunday. If there is a typhoon, I don't need to have trainings so I am happy."
Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak inspected Lei Yue Mun along with Drainage Services Department officers.
Mak said the authorities have carried out precautionary measures, including the provision of flood barriers, pumping facilities and sandbags.
Meanwhile, many residents stocked up for the coming bad weather from a wet market in Mongkok, with many store shelves already empty of supplies.
The sky turned grey this afternoon as typhoon signal number 3 was issued.
The Observatory estimated that Wipha could bring severe damage to the city.
The weather forecaster said residents should expect strong north to northeasterly winds, heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.
Members of public are advised to stay indoors and not to engage in water sports.
