Typhoon signal No.3 will be issued 2:20pm

The Standby Signal No. 1 is in force, and the Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 2:20 p.m.

At 11 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Wipha was estimated to be about 600 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 20.2 degrees north 119.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across the northeastern part of the South China Sea, edging closer to the coast of Guangdong.

With its outer rainbands and associated strong winds affecting the coast of Guangdong gradually, winds will strengthen progressively later today.

The Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 at 2:20 p.m. Showers will be heavy with squally thunderstorms later. Seas will be rough with swells.
