U.S. FCC plans to ban Chinese technology in undersea communications cables

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is planning to adopt rules to bar companies from connecting undersea communication cables to the U.S. that include Chinese technology or equipment.
The Commission's Chairman Brendan Carr said the U.S. is taking action to guard its submarine cables against foreign adversary ownership and access as well as cyber and physical threats.
The U.S. has for years expressed concerns about China's role in handling network traffic.
It is understood that U.S. regulators have been instrumental in the cancellation of four cables whose backers had wanted to link the U.S. with Hong Kong.
