State media reported astronauts aboard the China Space Station have begun transferring supplies from the Tianzhou-9 robotic cargo spacecraft, which was launched and docked with the station earlier today.
Carrying the spacecraft, the Long March-7 Y10 carrier rocket blasted off from the Wenchang Space Launch Site in Hainan Province early Tuesday morning.
The vessel spead out its solar panels, entered into the preset orbit and successfully docked at the rear docking port of Tianhe, the core module of the Tiangong space station, at 8:52 a.m.
Tianzhou-9 is carrying hundreds of packages with a combined weight of 6.5 metric tonnes, including propellants, spacewalk suits, experimental equipment and necessities.
The supplies would be delivered to the crews of Shenzhou-20 and Shenzhou-21 missions, who have stayed in orbit for almost three months.
Some astronauts have already opened the hatch of Tianzhou-9 and entered the cargo craft, and they are expected to proceed with cargo transfer and related tasks as scheduled.
