Southend Airport near London was closed today after a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday, killing four people.

U.K. police and investigators were reviewing the aftermath of the crash at London Southend Airport.

Shortly after takeoff, the Beechcraft B200 Super King Air got into difficulty and crashed within the airport boundary.

Police say they believe all four victims are foreign nationals.

The plane operated by Zeusch Aviation in the Netherlands had flown from Athens, Greece, to Pula, Croatia, on Sunday before heading to Southend.

It was a 12-metre turboprop model and was due to return to Lelystad, Netherlands.

British media said the plane was equipped with medical systems for transporting patients.
