Xi Jinping pays tribute to martyrs in resistance war against Japan

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, went to Yangquan City in Shanxi Province to a lay a floral basket to the anti-Japanese martyrs and visited the memorial Hall commemorating the Hundred Regiment Campaign.
He said that China persisted in the 14-year war of resistance and made great sacrifices. He hoped that young people would contribute to peace.
Xi said the Hundred Regiments Campaign is a period of history that he is very familiar with. He said after watching it there, he still felt emotional.
Xi said: "Remember the past and learn from it. Our children must be the backbone of the nation. We must make our country strong and contribute to world peace. Hope is placed on you. The future belongs to you. Work hard, strive for strength, and be an upright, glorious and proud Chinese."
