The Chinese Embassy in South Africa has escalated security warnings urging overseas Chinese nationals to enhance their safety awareness and guard gainst kidnapping crimes.

The embassy said since June, multiple kidnapping cases targeting female Chinese nationals have occurred in some parts of South Africa, particularly in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape provinces.

It was said that kidnappers tend to attack Chinese nationals during their weekends commutes and business-closing hours when they are more vulnerable.

The embassy urged Chinese nationals to remain vigilant about suspicious activities around their residences and businesses and to strengthen personal safety measures.

Female nationals are advised to avoid traveling alone whenever possible. If abducted, victims are advised to stay calm and avoid direct confrontation with the kidnappers. Families of kidnapped individuals should report to the police promptly and cooperate fully with the investigation.
