Shandong fleet leaves Hong Kong after 5-day visit

The Shandong aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships have completed their 5-day visit to Hong Kong. 

At the Ngong Shuen Chau naval base, local government officials hosted a farewell ceremony to send off the fleet. 

The frigate Yuncheng departed from the base at around 9a.m. this morning. Sailors on board waved goodbye to Hong Kong-based People's Liberation Army representatives as well as school children on the shore. 

Yuncheng joined the destroyer Zhanjiang, passing through Victoria Harbour to leave Hong Kong waters through Lei Yue Mun. 

The aircraft carrier Shandong, anchored in the city's western waters, also departed at around 10.30a.m. off the southern shores of Hong Kong island.
