Russia launched its largest aerial attack on Kyiv overnight since its war on Ukraine began.
Waves of drone and missile attacks inflicted damage across multiple districts in the capital, and injured 23 people.
This as Russian leader Vladimir Putin told U.S. President Donald Trump in a phone call that Moscow would achieve its goals in the conflict, including the elimination of its root causes that led to the current state of affairs.
Explosions heard again overnight in Ukraine's capital Kyiv as Russia launched 550 drones and missiles. Russia's airforce said the majority were Shahed drones with 11 missiles fired.
Ukrainian air defences shot down 270 targets, including two cruise missiles. Another 208 targets were lost from radar and presumed jammed.
Russia successfully hit eight locations in Kyiv, injuring 23 people, according to the city's mayor.Fires were reported in at least five locations with railway infrastructure also hit.
The attack came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump held a call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, when Trump reiterated his proposal for a swift ceasefire in Ukraine.
Putin said Russia insists on resolving the conflict through political negotiations, and updated Trump on the second round of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine.
The U.S. President also and made his first public comments in the call on the U.S. decision to pause some shipments of weapons to Ukraine, which includes munitions, such as Patriot missiles, the AIM-7 Sparrow air-to-air missile and shorter-range Stinger missiles.
They are needed to counter incoming missiles and drones, and to bring down Russian aircraft.
U.S. President Donald Trump said: "We're giving weapons but we've given so many weapons. But we are giving weapons and we're working with them and trying to help them. But we have it, you know, Biden emptied out our whole country giving them weapons and we have to make sure that we have enough for ourselves."
