A ceremony was held at the Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base to welcome the arrival of a Chinese naval fleet led by aircraft carrier Shandong.

This is the guided-missile frigate Yuncheng. while this is the guided-missile destroyer Zhanjiang.

The two vessels berthed at the Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base on Thursday morning.

Officers carried out a traditional navy ceremonial gesture -- manning the rails. They then greeted members of the public.

At the pier, more than a hundred students welcomed the vessels.

Chief Executive John Lee and Zhou Ji, Director of Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong were among the guests who took part in the ceremony.

Lee said the arrival of the naval fleet is exciting and came at a historic moment when the SAR marks the 28th anniversary of its return to the motherland and the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the National Security Law.

Some students said they were impressed by the quality of the navy officers when they first saw them lining up on decks.

The two vessels will dock at the Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base during the fleet's five-day visit.

Members of the public who have reserved a slot can visit the vessels on the weekend.

It takes about 20 minutes to travel by boat from Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base to Western Anchorage No.2, the dock where Shandong aircraft carrier is berthed.

Compared to aircraft carrier Liaoning, which visited Hong Kong in 2017, Shandong has a larger deck size. The CE and other guests arrived to attend a reception.

On aircraft carrier Shandong, two latest Chinese combat aircraft types are showcased: J-15 "Flying Shark" and J-15T.

J-15T, which has a grey nose cone, an improved model of J-15, can carry newer missiles and sensors.

The fighter jet is reported to be lighter because of its more composite components.
