Thailand's Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from duty, pending a case seeking her dismissal.
The court said it had accepted a petition from 36 senators who accuses the Paetongtarn of dishonesty and breaching ethical standards in violation of the constitution over the leak of a telephone conversation with Cambodia's former leader Hun Sen.
The Reuters news agency has quoted a government minister as saying Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit will become caretaker premier.
During a June 15th call intended to defuse escalating border tension with Cambodia, Paetongtarn was said to have criticised a Thai Army commander. She has since apologised and said her remarks were a negotiating tactic.
