A 48-year-old female patient accidentally had her fallopian tube removed by a doctor at the Caritas Medical Centre in an appendix-related surgery.

The hospital apologised to the patient and promised to investigate the matter and provide a report within eight weeks.

The case involved the woman seeking medical help after suffering from abdominal pain on the 17th of this month.

Further analysis by the hospital indicated that she suffered from early appendicitis, mild colitis and had a small cyst near one of her fallopian tubes.

She was subsequently arranged for a minimally invasive surgery.

Five days later, she began experiencing a fever and even worse abdominal pain, during which hospital staff found out that her fallopian tube was mistakenly removed.

This as the Hospital Authority said it had mandated all surgery departments to strengthen frontline training.
