The CCTV system installed by the police in various districts of Hong Kong has helped solve more than 300 criminal cases and arrested nearly 600 people so far.
Secretary for Security Chris Tang said authorities are planning to connect some CCTV images from public housing estates and the MTR to the police system in stages.
In a media interview, Chris Tang said that the authorities will add about 5,000 to 7,000 CCTV cameras each year in the next two years, and plan to add new artificial intelligence technology.
He also said that the National Security Hotline set up by the National Security Department has received nearly 920,000 messages related to national security so far.
After the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the police arrested about 330 people, of which 189 people were prosecuted, and 165 were convicted. He also said that the Security Bureau is preparing relevant codes of practice for civil servants on national security and strives to launch them in the first half of the year.
