The Transport Department said that all five taxi fleets have been put into trial operation and licenses will be officially issued next month. It is expected that there will be 1,000 taxis providing services by the end of the month.
Angela Li Chung-yan, Commissioner for Transport, said the taxi fleet operators have worked hard to prepare and have done a lot of work.
Lee said most taxi fleets have reached about 60 percent of the relevant fleet size in terms of vehicle and hardware preparation, including the purchase of vehicles and the installation of relevant facilities on the vehicles.
She added that some drivers and car owners may not fully understand the specific operation of the new operating model of the taxi fleet, while some people have a wait-and-see attitude towards joining the fleet.
However, with the taxi fleets carrying out various activities recently, the response has become more and more enthusiastic.
It is believed that as the number of drivers increases, more fleet taxis will be put into service. It is estimated that by the end of July, there will be nearly 1,000 fleet taxis available to provide services.
