U.S. President Donald Trump says American and Iranian officials will hold talks next week, and he will likely seek a commitment from Iran to end its nuclear ambitions.
Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other military officials held a news conference to respond to an early leaked intelligence report suggesting that U.S. strikes against Iran likely put the country back mere months.
Hegseth heralded the strikes ordered by Trump, calling them a "resounding success."
Hegseth said: "President Trump directed the most complex and secretive military operation in history and it was a resounding success, resulting in a ceasefire agreement and the end of the 12-day war. There's been a lot of discussion about what happened and what didn't happen. Step back for a second."
"Because of decisive military action, President Trump created the conditions to end the war, decimating, choose your word, obliterating, destroying Iran's nuclear capabilities."
