The government held a forum on the 5th anniversary of the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law today.
In a keynote speech by Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, he said that attacks by external hostile forces on the city have not stopped, and Hong Kong must continue to implement national security.
He said that since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, Hong Kong has bid farewell to unrest, describing the National Security Law as a good law, like a "guardian angel".
Xia said during the period of social unrest, calls for Hong Kong independence were rampant, and violent forces were rampant. Hong Kong was damaged beyond recognition and national security was endangered. One country, two systems was almost destroyed.
He said after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, Hong Kong quickly returned to peace, the rule of law was defended, justice was upheld, citizens lived and worked in peace, and the safety of life and property were guaranteed. As some Hong Kong residents said, the familiar Hong Kong was back.
Xia Baolong pointed out that external hostile forces have not stopped their attacks on Hong Kong and that we cannot think that everything is fine. He proposed the "five musts", including that the maintenance of national security must be carried out throughout the entire process of the implementation of "one country, two systems".
Xia Baolong stressed that the governance of Hong Kong must be firmly in the hands of patriots, and all sectors must support and cooperate with the government.
Xia is currently conducting an inspection and investigation visit in Hong Kong.
