Customs arrested three men and two women for selling suspected counterfeit jewellery at the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
A total of 50 pieces of suspected counterfeit jewellery, with a total market value of about 150,000 dollars, mainly earrings, chokers and charms, were seized.
Customs earlier received tip-offs alleging that an exhibitor was selling counterfeit jewellery.
After investigation and with the assistance of the trademark owner, customs conducted a test-purchase of the suspected counterfeit jewellery at three exhibition stalls and seized the batch of suspected counterfeit jewellery.
Three managers and two staff, aged between 28 and 48, were arrested for suspected contravention of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance and taken to the customs headquarters for questioning.
