Electric vehicle technology company to set up battery-swapping station in HK

A new electric vehicle technology company has arrived in Hong Kong from the mainland to set up a battery swapping station.
The fully automated and unmanned station is located in the Shun Hing Centre in Kwai Chung and can replace a depleted battery in designated vehicle models in just 3 minutes, significantly reducing the often hours-long charge time.
The company, U POWER, signed a cooperation agreement with the Hong Kong Taxi Drivers and Operators Association, as well as industry representatives from Macao and Singapore
The company said they are discussing the application of battery-swapping technology in Hong Kong with 16 mainland automobile companies.
The company hopes to build 55 new battery-swap stations in Hong Kong in the next five years to service electric vehicles, buses and ferries.
