Relations between Thailand and Cambodia suffered a major blow on Wednesday after a telephone conversation between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and former Cambodian Premier Hun Sen was leaked.
Ties between the two neighbours are at their worst in more than a decade after a row over border territory that has sparked fears of military confrontation.
This as Thailand's the second-largest party in the ruling coalition, the Bhumjathai Party, withdrew from the government, building pressure on her to resign.
Several thousand Cambodians marched on Wednesday at a unity parade in Phnom Penh to support the country's frontline forces during an ongoing border dispute between Thailand.
Under the morning sunlight, vast crowds walked around a kilometre to the Independence Monument in the country's capital.
Many were holding Cambodian flags and singing national songs.
The event comes after a deadly clash in one of the disputed border areas between the two countries.
An armed confrontation at the border on May 28th left one Cambodian soldier dead.
The incident, which each side blames the other, reportedly took place in a relatively small "no man's land" along the border that both countries claim as their own.
Earlier this week, Cambodia said it would stop importing Thai fruits and vegetables if Thailand refused to lift imposed border restrictions.
A spokesperson for the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "We have learned yesterday Cambodia announced a suspension of imports of all vegetables and fruits, agricultural products from Thailand at our common border crossing points. In response, the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand has coordinated with major domestic retailers to purchase the produce from local farmers. Here, I empathise once again that the government gives utmost attention to impacts on the people in the area."
This as a telephone conversation between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and former Cambodian Premier Hun Sen was leaked.
The Thai leader was heard saying that she is under domestic pressure and urged Hun Sen not to listen to "the other side" in Thailand, including a Thai army commander in charge of the border area whom she called "an opponent."
Paetongtam later told reporters her conversation with Hun Sen was part of a negotiation tactic and she has no problem with the Thai army.
"I won't be talking privately with him anymore because there is a trust problem," she said.
