New AI system to catch illegal feeders of monkeys

People who feed wild monkeys in Kam Shan Country Park illegally should think again, as an artificial intelligence (AI) system has helped Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department prosecute six illegal feeders since its installation last year.
The department installed the system at the Country Park's parking lot. Upon detection of illegal feeding, the system alerts nearby officials to attend to the case.
Officials are keen to install more of these systems in other country parks to catch those who feed monkeys and wild pigs illegally.
The number of boars in the wild, incidentally, has dropped to around 900 in the city. Cases of them injuring people have also declined from 36 in 2022, to only seven last year. There has only been one recorded case of injury in 2025.
