Influenza A outbreak at Ying Wa Primary School sickens 46

An outbreak of influenza A has sickened 41 students aged 7 to 10 and five staff members at Ying Wah Primary School in Sham Shui Po. One of them remain hospitalised.
According to the Centre for Health Protection, patients developed symptoms such as fever, cough and sore throat since June 7th. 41 of them have sought medical attention. Three have been hospitalised and two of whom have since been discharged. All cases are mild.
35 people tested positive for influenza A virus. Health inspectors visited the school twice and found poor ventilation in some classrooms and common areas as well as inadequate cleaning of shared items.
The school is now under medical surveillance.
