In the first five months of this year, the Complaints Against Police Office received 882 reportable complaints, marking an increase of 33 percent year-on-year.

Unveiled during a meeting of the Independent Police Complaints Council, neglect of duty accounted for over 540 complaints, up 40 percent year-on-year.

That was followed by complaints related to inappropriate behaviour, poor attitude and foul language, which made up nearly 300 cases, rising 27 percent. Complaints of assault fell by 6 percent.

The IPCC said no unusual trends were observed, and it believes that the public are becoming more familiar with their rights to lodge complaints. The IPCC meeting also discussed the use of drones by police to assist in patrols.

It said while their drones can be equipped with weapons, the force said none are currently armed, and patrol routes are designed to avoid densely populated areas.
