A 50-year-old woman died after she was involved in a traffic accident that saw two pedestrians hit by a truck at a bus stop in Hung Hom.

The police arrested a 34-year-old man this afternoon.

Sources said the man is the owner of the truck who claimed he was not the driver involved in the crash.

Dashcam footage uploaded to the internet showed a white truck swerving towards the fast lane as it was travelling on the East Kowloon Corridor towards Yau Ma Tei at around 6:30 a.m.

The vehicle crossed three lanes before crashing into a Chatham Road North bus stop.

A number of people waiting for the bus were seen desperately dodging and fleeing from the oncoming truck.

Two women were injured in the process, with one of them, aged 50, trapped underneath the vehicle.

She was unconscious when Fire Services personnel rescued her and was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she was confirmed dead.

The other 33-year-old woman suffered from injuries to her limbs, and was sent to the same hospital for treatment.

The driver had fled the scene after the crash.

The police later arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.

According to the Road Traffic Ordinance, drivers involved in incidents pertaining to bodily harm or death must stop their vehicle and report to the police.

Authorities further stressed failure to do so is considered a criminal offence, noting that offenders could be subject to a maximum of 12 month's imprisonment and a 10,000-dollar fine.

Sources said the accident victim worked as a waiter at a restaurant in Causeway Bay, and was waiting for the bus to her workplace at the time of the incident.
