Hong Kong has been ranked third out 69 economies in the latest 2025 World Competitiveness Ranking released by the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland.
This marks Hong Kong's return to the top three for the first time since 2019, with an increase of 7.7 points for a total of 99.2 out of 100.
Chief Executive John Lee said that the rise in rankings demonstrates the success of the Hong Kong government's governance strategies and policies: "The World Competitiveness Report gives increased scores for Hong Kong overall and in various fields, that shows that our policies are right and that various policies are yielding results."
Hong Kong ranked second in government efficiency, which Lee said encouraged him: "It shows that civil servants are competent and they have high calibre. It also shows that my decision to change the government culture to a result-oriented one is right and has yielded results."
