Two Redhill Peninsula homeowners have been fined around 110,000 dollars in total after pleading guilty to having carried out unauthorised construction works.

A lawmaker said the deterrent effect was too light, urging the government to appeal the case.

In September 2023, a major landslide brought to light multiple illegal structures at luxury housing estate Redhill Peninsula, which include basements and swimming pools.

30 properties in the luxury estate are facing legal action for such violations. The Buildings Department said more hearings are underway.

Lawmaker Andrew Lam, also a veteran city planner, said the 110,000-dollar fines are not high enough especially for the high-end estate residents.

He added authorities can consider reviewing the possibility of linking the level of penalties to the value of properties in question.
