Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said Hong Kong offers confidence for international shipping lines in selecting the city's port for bunkering.
This as the first liquefied natural gas bunkering and simultaneous cargo handling operation was completed in Hong Kong last week.
The bunkering vessel, "Haiyang Shiyou 301," the world's largest liquefied natural gas transporter, can carry a maximum load of 30,000 cubic metres.
Last Thursday, CLPe, a subsidiary of CLP, partnered with China National Offshore Oil, to supply about 10,000 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas to the vessel during its cargo operations at Kwai Tsing Container Terminals.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the successful operation allows Hong Kong to edge closer to its goal of becoming a green maritime fuel bunkering centre.
CLPe said fuel charging time was less than 24 hours, helping to reduce the vessel's port turnaround time.
