The Very Hot Weather Warning is in force. This afternoon, the observatory recorded a high temperature of 34.3 degrees Celsius.

And the observatory are expected to issue the Standby Signal No. 1 between Tuesday night and early Wednesday. This as a broad area of low pressure is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.

A clear sky at night. Without the sun, more people strolled along the promenade. Some brought their pets. Ice-cream van became the ultimate hotspot among passersby.

The Observatory says an anticyclone aloft will continue to bring scorching weather to southern China in the next two days.

Meanwhile, a broad area of low pressure over the central part of the South China Sea is expected to gradually develop into a tropical cyclone on Monday and Tuesday.

The observatory will issue the Standby Signal No. 1 not before Tuesday night or early Wednesday. That will depend on the tropical cyclone's rate of development and if it moves within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong.

Authorities will assess whether there is a need to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal between Wednesday and Thursday.
