The two-day Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races kicked off at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade.
More than 190 teams from 12 countries and regions are competing in the event.
The annual Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races returned to the waters of Victoria Harbour on Saturday morning.
The two-day sports event gathered more than 4,500 athletes from places such as Hong Kong, the mainland, Thailand and the Philippines.
Despite the scorching weather, many teams remained enthusiastic and highly motivated.
Some local spectators said they had been eagerly waiting to watch dragon boat races.
FABIANA, Spectator: "We came to see it because we couldn't come to see it last week, so we wanted to come to see it for the first time. And my kids also learnt at school, so she is very interested in the boats. She has been talking about it for, like three weeks, maybe."
Among the dragon boat teams, one of the newbies is from Qatar. The team said they enjoyed racing in Hong Kong but the weather was a challenge.
SHEILA CAPARROSO, Athlete, Qatar Team: "In Qatar, it's also hot and humid. However, still, the air in here is so different compared to there. Sometimes is dry, but here, everything is moist, everything is wet, steamy. But we like that kind of challenge."
At Tsim Sha Tsui East's Urban Council Centenary Garden, which is opposite the promenade, a beer garden was set up for the first time.
Visitors can claim a free beer at the Beer Garden after collecting a complimentary voucher
by presenting a valid travel document at locations including Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier and Hong Kong International Airport.
LIZ, British Tourist: "It's great. Cause the whole thing along the front is free anyway. Get a beer. It's great"
Apart from drinking, visitors to the garden can also take pictures with mascots resembling Ocean Park's twin panda cubs, Jia Jia and De De.
