U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to hold a phone call with Elon Musk to try to calm tensions after the two billionaires traded disagreements on social media.
Musk is unhappy with Trump's economic policy and the public souring of their relationship comes just a week after Musk stepped down from his role in the Trump administration's cost-cutting office.
Billionaire Musk and President Donald Trump seemed on good terms as Musk left his job running the Department of Government Efficiency. Trump giving Musk a gift and lavishing praise, saying he was sorry to see him go.
White House watchers say that behind the smiles,there were disagreements even before last week's split.
Zeke Miller from Associated Press says:"He seized the limelight and challenged Donald Trump sort of as the most visible person in the Trump administration, which is never someplace that a Trump staffer wants to be in.
And then from there came into policy disagreements, particularly around things like EV mandates and tax credits, which benefit Elon Musk's personal businesses."
The pair are now publicly feuding.

U.S. President Donald Trump says: "I've always liked Elon, and I was always very surprised. You saw the words he had for me.
The words are for him. And he hasn't said anything about me that's bad. I'd rather have him criticise me than the bill, because the bill is incredible.
Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" extends tax cuts, there will be no taxes on tips and overtime and the new legislation eliminates electric vehicle tax credits.
Trump says: "Elon's upset because we took the EV mandate, which was a lot of money for electric vehicles. And, you know, they're having a hard time, the electric vehicles, and they want us to pay billions of dollars in subsidy. Elon knew this from the beginning.
Musk fired back on his social media platform X,saying the bill will add too much to the the nation's debt and cause a recession.
Trump responding on Truth, posting: The easiest way to save money in our budget, billions of dollars, is to terminate Elon's government subsidies and contracts.
Musk's businesses also include rocket company and government contractor Space X and it satellite unit, Starlink.
In response, Musk threatened to begin decommissioning SpaceX's Dragon space capsule used to take astronauts and supplies to the International Space Station.
Musk retorted: Time to drop the really big bomb.

Musk campaigned for Trump spending a quarter of a billion U.S. dollars and standing alongside the Republican candidate at various rallies.
Now, the world's richest man has gone from one of Trump strongest supporters to being one of his biggest problems.
