Some groups are planning to organise Chinese courses that teach Mandarin and simplified Chinese characters to non-Chinese speaking students in the new school year.
The course was designed by Hong Kong's first Chinese language-learning testing centre.
The centre was jointly set up by the Education Bureau, the mainland's Centre for Language Education and Cooperation and the Hong Kong Financial Services Institute.
A trial for the course has been held at a secondary school in North Point.
80 to 100 students are expected to enroll in it after its launch.
They will be taught Mandarin by language experts from institutions such as the Beijing Language and Culture University and the South China Normal University.
