The government has granted two plots of land to the Urban Renewal Authority for residential use to help improve the URA's cash flow.
The sites are located in Hung Hom and Tseung Kwan O and will be leased for a term of 50 years.
The chief executive, acting in conjunction with the Executive Council, approved the granting of the two sites by private treaty at a symbolic price of 1,000 Hong Kong dollars.
The Tseung Kwan O Site is located in Area 137 with a net size area of around 9 hectares and a proposed floor area of about 710,000 square metres.
The residential land was originally reserved for public housing development.
However, after considering changing priorities of the Housing Authority and the sufficient supply of land for public housing for the next 10 years, the site was instead granted to the URA.
The Hung Hom site, located on Bailey Street, has a net area of around 7,600 square metres and a proposed floor area of about 68,000 square metres.
It was originally reserved for school development.
However, after further review, the Education Bureau determined that the land can be released for other uses.
