In recent years, the mainland textile and fashion industry has been actively integrating tech elements into its manufacturing process.
They include the use of artificial intelligence to design and manufacture T-shirts within just two minutes.
Enter keywords of your design into AI model DeepSeek. The AI assistant will automatically come up with a design concept. With 30 more seconds, the model will generate the pattern of the boy in red just as instructed and have the design printed on the T-shirt, all done within two minutes.
Leveraging DeepSeek and the computing power of telecommunications companies, this AI-powered customisation service made its debut at this Chaoshan Textile and Garment Expo and is still in the experimental stage.
Hong Yu, an expert from China Mobile (Guangdong), said overall, AI helps revitalise the traditional textile industries, not just in designing but also inventory management and industrial transformation.
The 2025 International Textile and Garment Expo in Shantou reaches its 4th iteration.
The exhibition hall covers an area of 130,000 square metres, which is the largest scale featuring more than 1,000 enterprises and 200,000 exhibits. Among them, China's popular animated film "Nezha 2" collaborated with a brand to roll out limited edition apparel which attracted many fans. On the other side, the intelligent manufacturing hall exhibits a variety of advanced home-grown garment equipment.
They include lace patterns woven by lasers, and fully automated ultra-high-precision tailoring.

According to the organisers, the fair saw a turnout of 120,000 professional visitors this year, marking a jump of 30 percent from last year.
It hopes the growing interest will help the industry build its international influence and drive the high-quality development of the entire Chaoshan region.
