In India, a stampede outside a cricket stadium in Bengaluru has killed several people and left dozens injured, media reports say. One report said 11 people died.

The incident happened on Wednesday as thousands of cricket fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the southern city to celebrate the local team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, winning the Indian Premier League.

The competition is the world's biggest T20 tournament for franchise teams.

Local TV news channels showed footage of police carrying the injured and those who fell unconscious to ambulances.

D.K. Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka state, said "the crowd was very uncontrollable."

In January, at least 30 people were killed as tens of thousands of Hindus rushed to bathe in a sacred river during the Maha Kumbh festival.
