A 23-year-old Pakistani man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for perverting the course of justice.

That's after he attempted to cover up for an Indian driver involved in a car crash near the Department of Justice complex in Central.

In July 2023, a private vehicle crashed into a security booth outside Justice Place.

The three men aboard fled the scene. The Indian driver's younger brother lied to the police that he drove the car when surrendering himself.

The 23-year-old Pakistani man, meanwhile, aided in the cover-up -- falsely claiming to the police that the younger brother was the driver.

The court stressed that despite not benefiting directly from the crime and having no prior convictions, the Pakistani man played a crucial role in helping the actual driver evade responsibility.
