Lee Jae-myung was sworn in as South Korea's new president to beginning his single five-year term on Wednesday.
Lee was elected the country's 21st president in a snap election with 49.42 percent of the vote, beating his major rival Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party with 41.15 percent.
He said in his inaugural address that his government will deal with potential North Korean aggressions with "a strong deterrence" based on the solid South Korea-U.S. military alliance. But he would also leave the door open for dialogue with North Korea and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula.
