A growing ecotourism industry is transforming some of Tibet's local communities.
Many former farmers are now running successful homestays, with some earning three times their previous income. And villages are receiving government support to upgrade their infrastructure.
Situated along the famous 318 National Highway, which is considered one of China's most scenic routes, Zhaxigang Village has gradually become a popular tourist destination over the past 20 years.
At 3,300 metres above sea level, visitors can experience horse riding while enjoying the sight of Tibet's unique landscape.
Over half of the residents here now operate homestays.
The whole village's income from tourism reached 4.25 million yuan last year.
This Tibetan-style homestay features 28 traditionally decorated guest rooms.
It operates at full capacity daily during the peak season, bringing in half a million yuan annually.
That's triple what the owner earned through farming in the past.
Further east in Nyingchi, Tibet, Gala Village has undergone a remarkable transformation.
Despite its famous cherry blossoms, the village only made 2,000 yuan during its first cherry blossoms festival in 2002 due to poor infrastructure.
After being listed as a key tourism village in 2019, government funding helped build roads and utilities.
The village's annual tourism revenue has since surpassed 1 million yuan.
The Tibet Tourism Department projects that rural tourism spending will reach 3.6 billion yuan by 2025, as more villages embrace this sustainable path to prosperity.
