Amid the global economic chaos stirred by U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies, some American business associations stressed many in their sector are concerned about the country's economic future.
They also say overseas businesses are afraid of investing in the U.S.
This as some Hongkongers who have settled in America believe the crisis, at the same time, presents new opportunities.
California's Silicon Valley has long been the dream location for tech entrepreneurs who wish to make a name for themselves.
Among them are Hongkongers Mantin and Juman.
They have settled in Silicon Valley for well over a decade.
Besides their line of work, the pair regularly discuss hot button issues such as the tense relationship between China and the U.S., as well as the latter's future.
Mantin, an advisor to a tech company that aims to treat autistic individuals, is trying to raise 20 million Hong Klong dollars' worth of funds.
But he says he has yet to receive any replies from potential investors he has contacted.
Mantin says no one is certain about the future in light of the current situation with the tariffs, and that they should stay put and observe instead.
Meanwhile, Juman, who manages a company that utilises AI to organise travel itineraries, believes the chaotic occasion actually presents an opportunity.
He noted that he is using this time period to acquire important skills in using AI to generate new ideas.
This as many remain concerned about investment in such a volatile situation.
Darlene Chiu, the executive director of GlobalSF, stressed the difficulty of convincing anyone to invest in her country, adding that layoffs are becoming ever more common among U.S. companies.
Chiu said obstacles to Chinese investment in the U.S. do not only come from American politicians, given that a large portion of the American public remain hostile to China.
