Sources say the 49-year-old man who robbed a Hang Seng Bank branch in Sha Tin on Monday has fled to the mainland.
The affected Hang Seng Bank continued to operate at Fortune City One Shopping Centre in Sha Tin this morning.
Sources say police have targeted a local 49-year-old man as the suspect of the robbery.
The force initially suspected the man had hid in a flat at City One. The Special Duties Unit, or the "Flying Tigers," were deployed to the scene but found nothing.
After investigation, the police found that the man had escaped to the mainland. The police said they are in contact with their mainland counterparts to help with an arrest.
The incident happened at around 5 p.m. on Monday. The suspect took out a seven-inch butcher knife, grabbed a female bank employee and held the weapon against her neck.
The man eventually robbed a total of 370,000 dollars and fled the scene.
