Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan hopes the congestion situation on Tuen Mun Road can be reduced by five percent during busy periods.

This came after the free-flow toll service, HKeToll, was implemented at Tai Lam Tunnel on Saturday.

On the first working day after the launch of the HKeToll, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan inspected Tai Lam Tunnel's traffic conditions.

Chan said the tunnel had roughly received an extra 10 percent of traffic between midnight and 6 a.m. She hopes more residents would use the tunnel in the future to help improve traffic congestion on Tuen Mun Road.

Under the new toll system, the toll fee for private cars at peak hours on weekdays is 45 dollars, while the fee during regular hours is 30 dollars.

A flat rate of 28 dollars is charged on taxis. Buses and trucks must pay a flat toll of 43.
